Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black

Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black Review

Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black Feature

  • Compact tabletop AM/FM radio with black wooden enclosure and front-firing 3-inch speaker
  • 7-watt amplifier and acoustic bass compensation system deliver warm, room-filling audio
  • Advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry clearly reproduces distant AM/FM stations
  • Full-range adjustable treble and bass controls; Radio Data System (RDS) support
  • Auxiliary input jack for connecting iPod or MP3 player; measures 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D)
Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its black wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive.

Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control.

A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (great for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds.

What's in the Box
WR-2 tabletop radio, detachable power cord, infrared remote control, user's manual. Digital AM/FM Table Top Receiver designed to provide exceptional audio reproduction utilizing a special acoustically balanced enclosure combined with a enhanced frequency response speaker and Sangean's advanced audio circuitry providing the sound and features of a large home stereo system.

To deliver the best performance possible in this price class, Boston Acoustics engineers brought together the best elements of traditional loudspeaker design, incorporating several new technologies and some innovative thinking, to once again set the new standard for performance and value. Newly developed woofers feature ceramic and glass fiber polymer cones reduce distortion and improve clarity. Rubber surrounds were optimized using FEA and Mass Balancing technique to improve linearity and lower distortion. Woofers feature Boston's Deep Channel Design, allowing increased excursion for improved dynamics. Low-loss film capacitors and low-distortion laminated silicon steel core inductors are used in all critical areas of the crossovers. Elimination of hardware on the cabinet's front baffle, rounded front edges and magnetically attached grills improve A-Series frequency response and imaging. Klipsch HD 300 Compact 5.1 High Definition Theater System (Set of Six, Black) Feature

  • Exclusive horn-loaded Micro-Tractrix design produces more lifelike sound and greater output with less power & energy than conventional designs.
  • Four beautiful High Gloss Black speakers feature 2.5" heavy-duty IMG woofer and Micro-Tractrix horn-loaded .5" textile tweeter.
  • High Gloss Black center channel for clear dialog & special effects via 2.5" IMG woofer
  • Phase and level controls to perfectly blend the heavy-duty 6.5" driver and 80watt RMS amplifier with rest of the system.
  • Integrated Wall brackets included rotate 40 degrees, also 1/4" threaded insert for use with optional floor stands from a variety of manufacturers.
Since 1946, proprietary horn-loaded technology has been the driving force behind the Klipsch’s highly acclaimed, stunningly precise sound. Superior quality, horn-loaded speakers are an absolute must for delivering the powerful, detailed soundtracks of today’s demanding blockbusters. Perhaps that’s why 50 percent of all new theaters in North and South America, as well as Korea and Australasia install Klipsch products. Klipsch’s ongoing experience in the cinema industry is a significant benefit to you because the cutting-edge research that drives the development of the company’s professional theater speakers is also applied to its home theater systems. The same advanced Tractrix Horn geometry and compression driver technology that reproduces a more genuine, lifelike sound in theaters is inside the HD Theater 300. Horn designs dramatically increase efficiency, enabling Klipsch speakers to produce more output using less energy. This improves reliability and reduces distortion, so you hear exactly what the artists and directors intended, instead of speaker coloration.

Room-filling Sound That Fits Anywhere
Boston Acoustics' Solo II has been designed to look great -- and engineered to sound even better. It measures only 5¼" x 8¼" x 6¼" (134 x 210 x 159mm) and contains a precision AM/FM tuner capable of locking in even distant radio stations. Positioning Options and a Touch Sensitive Rim
Your Solo II will sound great just about anywhere and in whatever position you decide on. Its special design allows for either a horizontal or vertical orientation. (If you put it near a wall or corner the bass response will be enhanced) These two equal options are allowed due to the fact that the Solo II's control panel can be rotated. If you want to change the orientation of the radio, simply grasp the ring around the control panel and turn it 90°. This means instant convenience, regardless of the space you are in.

In addition, the Solo II's unique snooze bar allows for a temporary reprise from either of the two available independent alarms. Designed in a continuous metal band that stretches around the unit's body, when users need a little more sleep they simply reach out and touch the metal rim around the front of the Solo II. This is easily done no matter how sleepy you are, and regardless of the chosen horizontal or vertical orientation. This delays the alarm for ten minutes. Each additional touch of the rim increases the length of the snooze alarm delay by 5 minutes. The maximum delay is 60 minutes. The display shows the time and a flashing alarm icon. To see how much snooze time is left touch the metal rim once. If you touch the rim again another five minutes is added to the snooze time for each additional touch. To cancel the snooze function press the button for the active alarm.

20 Station Presets
The Solo II has 20 station presets. The presets can be used to store either AM or FM stations. Because of the way the Solo II places stations in the presets you may want to plan how you store them. Here's how it works. The first station you store goes into Preset 1. The second station goes into Preset 2 and so on, up to 20 stations. If you remove a preset all the stations in presets above the one you removed, drop down a preset position.

Connect Additional Devices
The Solo II is not limited to AM/FM broadcast content. Other audio equipment, such as an iPod or a portable CD player, can be connected to the Solo II through the rear panel auxiliary input. You will need a cable with a stereo mini plug (sold separately) on both ends. Select the Aux input using the mode control.
